Description |
Reproduction of a woman's costume from Himmerland, between Limfjorden and Hadsund Fjord in the northern area of the Jutland Peninsula. (a) Skirt - handwoven bright orange-red wool fabric, unlined, hemmed and gathered at the waistband. The inner waistband is marked "MOLBAK" and has a hook-and-eye closure, two ribbon loops for hanging, plus three hook-and-eye closures to attach the skirt to its matching vest. (b) Underskirt - handwoven green woolen fabric, unlined, hemmed, and gathered at the waistband. The inner waistband has a hook-and-eye closure. (c) Blouse - handwoven ivory linen, hemmed and unlined. Its design is a simple, unadorned boat-neck with three-quarter-length hemmed sleeves. (d) Apron - handwoven wool, unlined, and hemmed. It is primarily green with narrow vertical stripes: red and black stripes alternate with white and black stripes. There are two hook-and-eye closures on the apron ties. There is a fabric label reading "Molbak" at the bottom right corner of the inside hem. (e) Vest - handwoven wool, lined with linen, hemmed, and gathered at the back. It is primarily bright orange-red narrow vertical stripes that are bands of green, red, dark green, white and red. The stripes form a V pattern on the back of the vest. It laces in front from top to bottom with red cotton string laces that are concealed by plackets. (f) Shawl - handwoven wool, unlined and hemmed, with matching red fringe. The embroidered flowers are light blue, dark blue, and white with green leaves. |
