Description |
Viking færing (boat), reproduction. (a) Wooden plank-constructed boat with carved dragon head screwed to front end, and coiled tail at rear. Wood is medium brown, unpainted and varnished. Brass rivets hold planks together. A gold-colored metal plaque is screwed to side of boat near front: "Minersville Area High School 1999 Viking Boat Project, Mentors: Mr. Ned Eisenhuth Mr. Fred Lutkus / Senior Boar Builders (lists 16 names)". Four oars (b-e) are each 109" long, and would be held in place by leather staps screwed to form loops at oarlocks for rowing. (f) Detachable rudder is also varnished wood, has hole with thick white cord held in place with washers, about 1/3 down from handle. (g) Leather strap, 33" long, with 2 holes at either end, may be for securing rudder. Stand (h) is 611/2"w x 55"d x 24"h, and is contructed of stained 2x4's, 2x2's, etc. |
